THE NEW PARKROYAL COLLECTION MARINA BAY IS A GARDEN OASIS

Singapore recently welcomed its first “garden-in-a-hotel”, a fitting tribute to the garden city’s abundance of lush greenery. Fresh from a US$33.6 million refurbishment, Parkroyal Collection Marina Bay has opened in place of the former Marina Mandarin Singapore. Housed in a 21-story high-rise building designed by neo-futuristic American architect John Portman, the property is designed for sustainability and wellness.

The hotel’s indoor atrium, also Southeast Asia’s largest, has been updated with indoor gardens featuring more than 2,400 trees and shrubs that offer air purifying properties. Naturally illuminated by skylight that shines through UV-treated glass to reduce energy usage, the atrium also comes with a 13-meter landscaped wall and a four-story-tall skybridge dotted with relaxation pavilions that look like birds’ nests.

Guests can luxuriate in the spacious Parkroyal Collection Suite and the Signature Marina Bay Suite—the latter comes with scenic bay views, or go for the cozy Urban or Lifestyle room. Those staying in the Club rooms will enjoy privileges at the Collection Club Lounge, including daily buffet breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening cocktails with hors d’oeuvres.

Culinary options are aplenty here, including Cantonese restaurant Peach Blossoms, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, the Atrium Lounge, as well as all-day dining establishment Peppermint. Offering a farm-to-table concept that’s on brand with the hotel’s garden theme, Peppermint uses locally-sourced ingredients from its in-house urban farm in its menu items.

To showcase its sustainability efforts, the hotel will also host daily tours where guests can learn more about its eco-friendly initiatives. For example, single-use plastic bottles have been swapped out for glass ones, amenities are presented in biodegradable packaging, and food waste is processed in a food digester to become nutrient water for the hotel’s gardens.

With wellness at its heart, Parkroyal Collection Marina Bay also offers fitness classes at its gym studios, massages and treatments at the St. Gregory spa, as well as a soon-to-be-completed mineral water outdoor pool, which features more than 1,380 fiber-optic lights to create the look and feel of a star-lit galaxy.

In light of its opening, the hotel is offering 15 percent off the Best Available Rate from now until the end of March 2021.
