In the face of this ongoing pandemic, homegrown restaurants, cafes, and eateries have been some of the hardest hit. Enter Hi5SG, a Singapore-based, non-profit dining initiative that aims to help revive the local dining scene while giving back to underprivileged communities.
Started by the same people behind independent restaurant coalition www.wearefnbsg.com, Hi5SG will run from now until January 2021. Diners can enjoy dining experiences themed around the number “5”, including $5 dishes and drinks, 55 percent discounts. as well as $55 set menus across Michelin-starred restaurants, gastro-bars, and cloud-dining concepts. The digit is a play on the city-state’s current five-pax dining rule, with hopes of encouraging people to dine out while maintaining a safe social distance.

Participating restaurants include Chinese eating houses like TungLok Signatures and Imperial Treasure Fine Teochew Cuisine, award-winning diners like Braci, Art and Zafferano Italian, as well as online dining concepts like Grammi, which is helmed by Michelin chef Beppe De Vito. For drinks, there’s popular cocktail spots like Smoke & Mirrors and the hole-in-the-wall Ah Sam Cold Drinks Stall.
The initiative hopes to raise a total of S$300,000 for its official beneficiary =DREAMS, a residential-based intensive educational program that mentors underprivileged children in order to give them better future opportunities. Part of the proceeds—ranging from $1 to $5 from the Hi5SG experiences goes to the charity, with selected restaurants doing their parts equally by providing a matching donation.
