Don’t care where you’re going as long as you get to travel? If these are your sentiments considering the lack of vacay plans this year, then Air New Zealand has just the deal for you. The New Zealand flag carrier is bringing back its “Mystery Break” travel packages, where travellers can book a holiday with the airline without knowing the destination until two days prior to departure.
Priced from US$422, the packages come in three tiers—The Great, Deluxe, or Luxury Break, inclusive of accommodation at an Accor hotel with breakfast included, airport transfers, or a rental car from Avis. Travelers can pick their desired date and pinpoint a place which they’d prefer not to go. Other than that, the destination could wind up being any of the airline’s 20 domestic destinations, such as Napier, Dunedin, and Queensland.
Jeremy O’Brien, the airline’s general manager brand and marketing, says: “We’re really excited to have refreshed Mystery Breaks – it’s part of doing our bit to boost local tourism. Previously these had been mostly purchased by corporate customers, but we’ve developed the packages further to appeal to leisure travellers.
“It takes the admin out of booking a holiday – you don’t have to research and plan all the separate elements – all you have to do is get on the plane. They are also a great gift option because you don’t need a name or a date to buy a voucher – the recipient can decide at a later date.”
With the country’s borders closed to nearly all foreign visitors, encouraging domestic travel seems to be the way to go.
